O house of Awf, come to the lovesick one's aid!
And how often you have relieved distress!
Your brother's beginning was love;
Then, after that, it turned to war.
Restrain the gazelles in your pastures
That take captives when raided, but are not taken captive.
And take my right hand as it pledges
That my eye shall not return to love.
They said, 'We have released him from his halter.'
They spoke truly—and bound the eye and the heart.
