رأيت الحُبَّ ليس يُنال إلا

بحظٍّ من جَمالٍ أو نوالِ

I saw that love is not attained

Except with a share of beauty or fortune

وأنت من القباحةِ ذو نصيب

حقيق بالتصارم والتقالى

And you are one with a share of ugliness

Deserving of estrangement and avoidance

وما ستَرتْ عيوبَك عن عيونٍ

بَصيراتٍ يداك ببذلِ مالِ

Your flaws have not been hidden from the eyes

Of the discerning, even with spending money

فأيّة خَلّةٍ غرّتك حتى

خطبتَ بِها مَودّاتِ الرجالِ

So what delusion has deceived you that

You sought with it the affection of men
