The night at al-Ḥimā has known my piety,
The night of fever knew my vigil,
and the full moon within it is prey to desire.
And the moon was the prey of greed.
I close my eyes to her beauties,
I close my eyes to its beauty,
and the heart comprehends what the eyelids recall.
Yet my heart cannot forget what my eyelids see.
Fear of the Imam restrains us from youthful
Fear of the Imam deters us from misguidance
passion, as gray hair and baldness do—
As the warnings of old age and baldness.
al-Qāʾim, who unsheathes his sharp swords
His unsheathed swords
upon the heads of vain desires and heresies.
Are poised over the heads of vain desires and heresy.
Through mention of his names, which are exalted,
His blessed names ennoble
the excellence of feast days and Fridays is known.
The excellence of feast days and Fridays.
