Tomorrow you will see them leaning upon the ghada trees,
Tomorrow you will see her wings over the meadow
Seeking a bond from a time gone by.
Seeking a covenant from a time now passed
Why are their eyes downcast,
Why are her sights so humble
Except when the lightning of al-Aqiq flashes?
Except when the ruby sparks or glows
Terrified, they imagine above their heads
She reckons in her thoughts
Sharp swords from it, drawn against them.
Swords against her to be drawn
They yearned for the Hijaz caravan, complaining
She longed for the caravan of Hijaz complaining
To it of a malady from the people of al-Udhayb.
To it of the people of Udhayb and their sickness
You have no debtor in the caravan who delays repayment.
You have in the caravan a hostile procrastinator
On the contrary, the tribe owes debts to be collected.
Yes, alive are debts to be claimed
He said, "And do you hope for repayment from them,
He said: And do you hope for loyalty from them
As though those debts were owed by the most illustrious al-Murtada?"
As if for the preferred term agreed
