يا دُرَّة البحر لو أنصفت نفسك ما
جعلتها سِلكَ دُملوجٍ وخَلخالِ
O pearl of the sea, had you done yourself justice, you would not
O pearl of the sea, if you were fair to yourself, you would not
have made yourself a string for an armlet and an anklet.
Make it a necklace of pearls and bracelets.
كم ذى حُلِىٍّ وقد أزرَى به عَطَلٌ
وعاطل ليس يدرى أنه حالِ
How many a wearer of jewels has been diminished by lack of adornment,
How many adorned with jewelry, yet clad by one in rags,
and how many an unadorned one knows not that he is adorned!
And an idle man knows not that he is in this state.
لولا الهوى لم يبتْ سكَّانُ كاظمةٍ
ممّن منازلهم حِجْرٌ على بالِ
Were it not for love, the dwellers of Kazimah would not linger overnight
If not for love, the people of Kazima would not spend the night
in my thoughts—those whose homes are in Hijr.
