It has winding paths like lurking snakes
Slithering bodies hiding in the soil
Carriages collide as they pass
And the slender man jostles with a donkey
How many Safeems have returned wounded, and how many
Children were trampled, and others fell into pits
He fell into a putrid puddle
Filled with foul water that bubbled up
The pedestrian ascends and descends in his path
And all is a rugged road that tears off nails
If you rode or walked the ominous, dark road
It brings misery and evil and plagues
Good has departed it, and evil resides in it
Affliction has settled and misery camps
It has no beauty except that its resident
Fears vileness and avoids burdens
It contains thousands of mangy dogs
Howling leanly at visitors
Sometimes scuffling with millstones and sometimes
Chasing the terrified rider
Ticks have filled their bodies, so their hides
Are scabies that scratch seeking a wall's comfort
Does not life seem woefully meager
To a man gnawed by dogs with bitterness?
So discern between this and that
And shed your flowing tears in sorrow
