هذي الشوارع لا شوارع غيرها

ستٌ بستٍّ عرضها شبارا

These streets are no different streets

Six by six is their width altogether

قد شارك الحيوان فيها معشرَ الا

نسان حيث سرى بها وسارا

The animal has shared them with the company of man

Where it walked through them and walked

بُعداً لها من شركةٍ ملعونةٍ

قد أورثتنا حطةً وصِغارا

Away with it from an accursed partnership

That has left us disgrace and belittlement

كم قد سألنا فسخها فيجيبنا

ذو الشأن من ذا يمنع لا قدرا

How much we asked to annul it, we are answered

By the authorities "who can prevent what is fated?"
