ما بال طرفكَ يسهر
ودمعهُ يتحدَّر
Why are your eyes sleepless
As tears flow down
يمشي الهُوينا لخدٍّ
بوَردِهِ يتعثَّر
Passion wanders on a cheek
Stumbling with its roses
كلؤلوءٍ عَهدَ كسرى
صباحَ نيروزَ يُنثَر
Like pearls from Kisra's era
Scattered on a Nayrouz morning
او انجم العقد رثَّت
اسلاكهُ فبتعثَر
Or like a necklace's stars scattered
Its threads all tangled
بهِ لظى الخدّ يَزهُو
كجنَّةٍ وهوَ مطهَر
With it, the cheek glows
Like a purified, blossoming garden
وعَنبر الشَعرِ تُغري
بهِ البنَانَ المُكَوفَر
The hair's ambergris seduces
With its abundant scent
يُفَتُّ باللمس منهُ
مسكٌ يفوح مُعَطّر
With a touch, musk emanates
A fragrant perfume
فيملأ الكونَ نشراً
بهِ الأوائلُ تُنشَر
It fills the universe with light
The ancients valued it
عهدي بثغركَ يسمو
ماء السماء تَبَلوَر
My covenant with your lips ascends
The sky's water crystallized
مُرَصَّفٌ في سموط اليا
قوتِ والكلُّ جَوهَر
Arranged in the glass of wine
Pure essence in all
ما بين جمرٍ وخمرٍ
عنها الاعاجيب تُؤثر
Between ember and wine
Wonders beyond it
وَسطَ اللهيب تراهُ
يفترُّ لا يتكدَّر
Amidst the flames it's seen
Neither melting nor hardening
وهو الذي فيهِ طبع الا
لماس لا يتكّسر
It is the imprint of beauty
Unbreakable diamond
يدوم يطفحُ نوراً
هَدَى وأروَى وأسكر
Lasting, overflowing with light
Guidance, tranquility and intoxication
ما بالهُ صار سرًّا
في خاطر السُخط مُضَمر
Why has it become a secret
Harbored in angry hearts
لماكَ أوصَدَ باباً
فيهِ الضياءُ تستَّر
When you closed a door
Concealing the light within
بالغيظ أرصدَ قفلاً
بهِ الدراريُّ تؤسَر
In rage, you bolted a lock
Imprisoning the pearls
أَنت لحزنٍ فأَبدت
ناراً ولم تتبخَّر
You showed sorrow, so displayed
A fire without incense
فكيف يؤسرُ نجمٌ
وكيف يُحبَس كَوثر
How can a star be imprisoned?
How can Kauthar be confined?
ما للفؤاد خفُوقٌ
كالمَوج والريحُ صَرصَر
Why does the heart flutter
Like waves and rustling winds
يعلو ويسفل بين ال
عباب يخفى ويَظهَر
Rising and falling between
Foam, hiding and appearing
والصدر يبدي اضطراباً
كالقُرط في أذن جؤذَر
The chest shows turmoil
Like a bell in a restless ear
لا يستقرُّ ضلالا
في ظُلمة الشَعر يجهر
Wandering lost in the darkness
Shouting in the hair
مع كونهِ جار نحرٍ
لكافر الليل ينحر
Though being the throat's neighbor
Sacrificed for the pagan night
في طوقهِ الزُهرُ عقدٌ
بمطلع الفجر مَظهَر
In its collar, a necklace appears
At dawn, manifesting
يحكي عَمُودَ ضياءٍ
في ذروة الطُّور أنوَر
It tells of a pillar of light
At the peak of the Mount, the brightest
قد صار في قفر سينا
لآل يعقوب محوَر
It became in Sinai's desert
A pillar for Jacob's family
وحلَّ في هيكل الحسن
للهداية مِنبر
And settled in the temple of beauty
As a minbar of guidance
تلتفُّ حول سناهُ الا
أبصارُ تعشو وتُبهَر
Eyes orbit around it
Admiring and dazzled
ما للواحظ غضبَى
تغزو السرورَ بعسكَر
Why are you angry with me
Invading joy with an army
تصل الصفاءَ بحربٍ
فيها الإِباءُ تَغَشَمر
You make peace into war
Where defiance is armed
ترنو الى الانس شزراً
يعود جمعاً مُكسَّر
You shoot embers at people
Shattering again when joined
تغدو القلوبُ هباءً
في الجوّ تُعقدُ عِثيَر
Hearts become dust
Suspended in air as a cloud
فالجفنُ يرمي سهاماً
والعينُ تسطو بأبتر
So the eyelids shoot arrows
And the eyes attack headstrong
والهدبُ يوترُ قوساً
والكحلُ يستلُّ خنجر
The brows ready their bows
And kohl draws the daggers
فكيف كل جيوش ال
عروش لا تتقهقر
How can all the armies
Of thrones not retreat
والبرُّ والبحر والكا
ئِنات لا تتحيَّر
By the truth of the Throne's Kingship
Revealed in the descent of revelation
بحقِّ أملاكِ عَرشٍ
بمهبط الوَحي تظهر
By the truth of every prophet
Who fasted and exalted
بحقِّ كل نبيٍّ
لله صامَ وكبَّر
By the truth of every saint
Who warned of Resurrection and eternity
بحقِّ الف وليٍّ
بالبعثِ والخُلد انذر
By the truth of every devotee
Pardoned in the Holy Sanctuary
بحقِّ كلّ حبيسٍ
في مَعبَدِ القدس كَفَّر
By the truth of the crown of beauty
You were exalted like Caesar
بحقِّ تاج جمالٍ
بهِ سموتَ كقيصَر
By the truth of the spear of glory
Today you have become Antarah
بحقّ رمح قوامٍ
اصاركَ اليومِ عنتر
You were a gazelle, so how
Have you become cruel
لقد نشات غزالاً
فكيف اصبحت قسوَر
Give me the answer - my
Heart is shattered
هات الجواب والأَ
هذا الفؤاد تفطَّر
You prolonged estrangement, my love
So living after you became bitter
أطلتَ يا حلوَ هجري
فالعيش بعدك مَرمَر
Your heart became after our
Separation like marble
قد صار قلبك بعد ال
فراق صفحة مَرمَر
You stayed in Egypt a month
So I said you're spoiled
أقمتَ في مصرَ شهراً

You were distracted by the wonders of Memphis
Forgetting the charm of Raamah
ألهَته آرام منفٍ
عن ذكر رامة عنجر
You broke your promise of love
As my tears flowed
وخان عهد ودادٍ
بدر دمعي تسطَّر
You forgot a time
Of the garden's joy and blossoms
وقد تناسى زماناً
من بهجة الروض انضَر
So I thought my life
Became an uninterpreted scripture
فصرتُ احسبُ عيشي
صحيفةً لا تُفسَّر
After my patience came
Despair that lingered and wearied
وحلَّ بي بعد صبري
يأسٌ أَملَّ وأضجر
So what happened came from me
And all is predestined
فكان ما كان مني
وكلُّ شيءٍ مُقدَّر
Suspicion is a sin
And truth rises and appears
والظنُّ بالسوءِ إثمٌ
والحقُّ يعلو ويَظهر
After this, I decided
Only to see me saddened
آليتُ من بعد هذا
الاَّ تراني مكدَّر
So strike with your truth goodwill
For the lover is excused
فاضرب بحقّك صَفحاً
ان المحبَّ ليُعذَر
