1. ما للهداية في العواصم من سبيل

    إلا إذا لجأ الغريب إلى دليل

    There is no path to guidance in cities

    Except when a stranger resorts to a guide

  2. عبثاً يبدّد مالهُ وزمانهُ

    من سار آونةَ السياحة كالضليل

    In vain he squanders his money and time

    Who traveled as a tourist like one misled

  3. لا سيما في مثل هذا القطر من

    بعد احتلالٍ حكَّم الضيف الدخيل

    Especially in a country like this one

    After occupation imposed a foreign guest

  4. روح الحضارة في الكنانة قد سرت

    كالبرق تقطع بالدقيقة ألف ميل

    The spirit of civilization flowed discreet

    Like lightning crossing a thousand miles per minute

  5. وثبت بها في رُبع جيلٍ وثبةً

    قامت مقام مسيرها في ألف جيل

    And in a quarter century made a leap

    As if it covered a thousand years

  6. فالحقُّ يعلو والعدالة أرهفت

    عضباً به الظلم القديم غدا قتيل

    So truth prevails and justice grows keen

    Angry at the ancient injustice now dead

  7. والخير يطفح والغنى متدفقٌ

    والأمن يرفع في ربى روضٍ ظليل

    Good overflows, wealth pours forth

    And security raises its voice in a shaded garden

  8. والأرض تُحرثُ والصنائع ترتقي

    والتجر مدّ علائقاً مع كل جيل

    The land is tilled, industries rise

    And commerce extends ties with every generation

  9. والنيل يخزن ماؤهُ حتى إذا

    شحَّ السحاب بفيضه كان البديل

    The Nile stores its water so if

    Clouds dry up, it is an alternative

  10. ومنائر العمران ينطح روقها

    رأس السماك ويزدري الهرم الجليل

    Minarets of construction raise their necks

    Above cement high-rises and ancient monuments

  11. والغاز يسطع والبخار مسخَّرٌ

    والبرق يوحي والكهارب في السبيل

    Gas glows, steam harnessed

    Lightning hints, and wires are on the way

  12. والخلق يهرج والعواجل ركَّضٌ

    والجوّ يضحك والقواطر في عويل

    People celebrate, cars race

    The air laughs, and trains scream

  13. وصحائف الاخبار تنقل للنهى

    آثار أهل الأرض من قالٍ وقيل

    News pages convey to the elite

    Accounts of people through tales and sayings

  14. ومعاهد الآداب بالعلم اغتدت

    تهدي المواطن كل ذي فضل نبيل

    Institutes of literature excel in knowledge

    Guiding every noble man of merit

  15. من كل أروع ماجدٍ متفننٍ

    سامي التصور زانهُ الخُلق الجميل

    Of every splendid ingenious type

    With sublime ideas and morals fair

  16. كبرت له نفسٌ به عرجت الى

    فلك الفخار بمصعد التعب الجزيل

    An ambition grew within aspiring

    To the orbit of pride with great effort

  17. تحدو به نحو العظائم همةٌ

    توحي العزائم من شبا الماضي الصقيل

    It inspired determination from the sheen of the past

    Heading toward mighty goals

  18. والطرق تُصلحُ والمنازه جمَّةٌ

    والغيد تمرح بالمحاسن تستميل

    Roads paved, houses plentiful

    Flowers plentiful, gardens teeming, soil fertile

  19. والزَهر زُهرٌ والورود مجامرٌ

    والترَب تبرٌ والجداول سلسبيل

    Streams flowing, life burgeoning

    Its lamps sing from its pages

  20. مصداحها يشدو على ادواحها

    ورياحها تشجيه بالنسم البليل

    And its winds rouse it with a gentle breeze

    So it has adorned itself, flourished and glittered

  21. فتزخرفت وتفوفت وتدبجت

    كجنان عدنٍ قد ثوت بجوار نيل

    Like Eden’s gardens near the Nile

    Its mornings and winters are like

  22. امساؤها اصباحها وشتاؤها

    كربيع جلَّق او بلاد الارخبيل

    Spring in the orchards or the islands

    And likewise Sudan was given its renaissance

  23. وكذلك السودان أوتي بعثهُ

    من بعد ما اودى به الجهل الوبيل

    After ignorance had destroyed it long ago

    It flowed on the Nile’s bank determined

  24. فجرى على متن السراط وهمه

    تعويض ما قد فات مذ عهدٍ طويل

    To make up for what was missed for so long

    The first signs of its glory and growth appeared

  25. فبدَت طلائعُ زهوه ونمائه

    وسمت مطالعُ ذلك الشعب الذليل

    The horizons of that humbled people cleared

    You look to Joseph becoming victorious

  26. ولوسف تنظر كيف يصبح ظافراً

    بجميع ما يرجوه في زمنٍ قليل

    Gaining all he hopes for in a short time

    Occupying peaks of towering glory

  27. متوقّلاً ذروات عزٍّ باذخٍ

    تثوي بهِ في معقل المجد الاثيل

    In the fortress of eternal glory

    The British, their dictionary lacks

  28. فالانكليز لقد خلا قاموسهم

    من قولنا نحن الاعارب مستحيل

    Our word "impossible," we Arabs

    And so today you need, more than anything

  29. ولذاك انت اليومَ اكثر حاجةً

    لشراء سِفرٍ لقَّبوه بالدليل

    To buy a book they titled "The Guide"

    A book that's a treasure in its subject

  30. سفرٌ غدا في بابه كنزاً حوى

    كل الغنى ولذاك عزَّ عن المثيل

    Containing all riches, matchless
