السجية في مثالك

I filled existence with my presence yet I am

Latent in your example

لا تخدعنّكِ لهفَتي

وتهالُك المتهافتين

Do not be fooled by my ardour

And the chaos of the desperate ones

إني على رغم الأسى

الجبار صخر لا ألين

Despite the sorrow, I am

An unyielding mighty rock

أنا فوق ما تتخيّلني

وفوق ما تتوهمين

I am beyond what you imagine me to be

And beyond what you speculate

أنا قصّة الحرمان

خالدة المناحة والأنين

I am the eternal story of deprivation

Of endless sighing and moaning

أنا دمعةُ الجفن

الكسير وآهة القلب الحزين

I am the teardrop of the broken eyelid

And the sigh of the sad heart

يا من عبدت ضياءَها

وزهدتُها جسما شهيا

O you who worshipped its glow

And denied it a desirable body

أبقى عليك فلن أزيدك

من سنا الأحلام شيّا

I shall remain with you and never

Add to your dreams at all

أنا لن أبالي حادثات

الدهر يمطرها عليّا

I will not care about the vicissitudes

Of fate pouring down on me

ما دام بين جوانحي قلبٌ

أعيشُ به نبيّا

As long as there is a heart inside my chest

That I live with as a prophet

حرمتهُ دنياه المنى

فأحالها يأسا شقِيّا

I deprived it of its mundane wishes

And turned them into miserable despair
