She granted her nectar to every shrub,
And let the thorns taste the honey pure.
She knew him tortured by love-longing,
So added to his burning, anguish more.
He gained no part of her sweet gardens,
Though craving all she had, whom wolves nursed.
No blame to her, seeing him frenzied,
Madly in love with her - she judged aright.
No blame to her, seeing his meadows
Wither, their blossoms dried by her disdain.
No blame to her bright, liquid eyes
If they revived his heart or left it slain.
No blame to her sweet, ruby lips
If to his pleading kiss they replied.
Oh how I grieve, torn by agonies,
My youth all wasted on this love denied!
For one drop of her sweetness I yearn
While the proud sand-lily disdains all rain.
