    ين وجنّت أمواجه الهيمانه

    The sea called to the maidens, so they answered

    Its waves roared passionately

  2. وتنادين ما أحبّك يا صي

    ف وما أجمل الهوى وزمانه

    And you called, how I love you O companion

    How beautiful is passion and its time

  3. وتواكبن ينثنين دلالا

    ويغنين للصبا ألحانه

    You moved in rhythm

    Singing the melodies of youth

  4. دمية عند دمية وغزال

    جنب ظبي ودوحة عند بانة

    Doll next to doll, and gazelle next to gazelle

    Palm tree near palm tree, and oasis next to oasis

  5. قبلات تجسدت فاستحالت

    زهرات من المنى نديانه

    Kisses materialized and turned

    Into flowers of wishes and hopes

  6. وأغاريد سلسلتها يد اللَه

    وأغرى بحبها إنسانه

    Songs chained by the hand of God

    Tempting with their love the human

  7. عبرت بي منهن أغنية سك

    رى حباها ملك الهوى سلطانه

    A drunken love song passed me by

    Gifted by the king of love in his glory

  8. وكساها الفن الإلهي ثوبا

    سرق الزهر والسنا ألوانه

    Dressed by divine art in a gown

    That stole its color from flowers and glitter from stars

  9. بنت غاب تود لو يرجع الغا

    ب لتروى أشواقها الظمآنه

    An absent beloved wishing her absent lover would return

    To quench her thirsty longing

  10. عبرت بي فقلت هذا هو الفن

    وإلا فلن أكون لسانه

    It passed me and I said this is true art

    Else I cannot be its tongue

  11. ورأتني حيران منتهب العين فحي

    ت بالطلعة الفتّانه

    She saw me perplexed, distracted

    So she smiled her charming smile

  12. واستراحت على الرمال فضجّت

    صبوات في خاطري يقظانه

    And rested on the sands, awakening

    Passionate thoughts in my vigilant conscience

  13. كان في عينها وفي شفتي

    ها شهوات مخمورة لهفانه

    In her eyes and lips desires intoxicated and aflame

    Called from my craving and burning screams maddened and drunk

  14. جاذبتها من لهفتي واحتراقي

    صرخات مجنونة سكرانه

    Making the heart of existence tremble with love

    And sing melodies joyful and elated

  15. خلت قلب الوجود يرعشه الحب

    فيشدو أنغامه الفرحانه

    As night recited on the universe

    The tales of its silent wakefulness

  16. حين قالت والليل يتلو على الكو

    ن أحاديث صمته النشوانه

    No life without love I said

    Unable to express more

  17. ما تكون الحياة من غير حب

    قلت شيءٌ لا استطيع بيانه

    I never knew love in my life

    And thought I'd never light its fire

  18. أنا لم أعرف الهوى في حياتي وأر

    اني لن أصطلى نيرانه

    My heart fears disgrace befalling it

    Pride protected and guarded it

  19. لي قلب أخشى الهوان عليه

    وإباءٌ حماه قلبي وصانه

    She said, ask one who knows, for I have tasted

    In love, glory and humiliation

  20. قالت اسأل به خبيراً فإني ذقت

    في الحب عزّه وهوانه

    I said, who are you, she said, the Red Paradise

    And my name, if you wish, is So-and-So

  21. قلت من أنت قالت الجنة الحمراء

    واسمى إذا أردت فلانه

    She drew near and ignited my flames

    Awakening my dormant passions

  22. ودنت من يدي فشبّت لهيبي

    وأثارت عواطفي النعسانه

    And turned to me from her enchanting lips

    A cup in which beauty was worshipped

  23. وأدارت علي من ثغرها الدا

    فىء كأسا عبدت فيه جمانه

    Then she said, her chest between my palms

    Her fingers conversing with mine

  24. ثم قالت وصدرها بين كفيّ

    تناجي أناملي رمانه

    Yours from me is what you desire

    And mine from you is the love that gives me tenderness

  25. لك منى ما تشتهيه ولي من

    ك غرام تضفى عليّ حنانه

    I said, this is a promise I will live by

    And ransom the world for its place

  26. قلت هذا وعد أعيش عليه

    وأفدّى بالعالمين مكانه

    Dawn broke, and a gentle breeze bent

    A free aroma that inspired

  27. وصحا الفجر فانثنت تتهادى

    نسمة حرة الشذا ريانه

    Then she kissed with her palm and disappeared, arousing

    In my heart much turmoil

  28. ثم حبّت بكفها وتوارت فأهاجت

    لخافقي أشجانه

    O her terrifying love, what has fate decreed for us

    And what has it taken as guarantee?

  29. يا هواها الرهيب ماذا قضى

    الغيب علينا وما أخذنا أمانه

    Yours from me is what you desire, O my heart

    If only its nearness would cease deprivation

  30. لك منّى ما تشتهي يا لقلبي

    لو أطالت من قربها حرمانه
