My Lord, the days drain their cups

And their dreams die before fulfillment

O You who draw me near through my fears

And return my soul from His cloudy shelter

Such is my existence night and day

This is my life, its light and darkness

A morn I hate coming to me with demands

To hold life in the palm of the absent mysteries

And a gloomy eve, silent in its sadness, alarmed in its visions

Its stars have grayed and its stay pleasant

Neither morn guides me on the path, nor eve

Wretched is a life whose system is unsettled

    Pains leap in their horizons

I am drowning, and my ribs are their food

    Burn after burn tightens

The patience of people, but still I bear them

And battlefields where my role was forced

On them, and its stage myself and my wreckage

O Lord, I am tired of this house of visitors

So may its peace not last

Make easy the guaranteed provision from its livelihood

    While pains befall without gain

My heart, and what is my heart but an ode

That immortalized its meanings and its words died

My soul, and is my soul anything but a glance

That perishes in the flames of sorrow and days

My poetry, and what poem have I not watered

With my tears, and did not make the world weep with its melodies

O Lord, my soul has prolonged its illness

And its remedy is the arrival of its death

I do not blame the story for its beginning

But I say, when will its end be?
