خَليلي صادَتني بِغنج لحاظها

فَتاةٌ مِن الأَتراك حَلَّت بِمُهجَتي

My beloved charmed me with the softness of her cheek

A Turkish girl who has enthralled my mind

دَنَت وَنَأت مِن غَير ذَنب فَأَحرَقَت

فُؤادي وَأَجرَت فَوقَ خَدّيَّ عبرَتي

She approached and retreated without any wrongdoing, yet she burned

My heart and drew tears down my cheek

يَقُولون لي دَعها فَقُلت وَكَيفَ لي

عَلى بعدها صَبر وفي القُرب جَنَتي

They say to me, leave her be! But I said: How can I

Have patience when distant, while nearby I lose my sanity?

جَرى قلم الباري عَليَّ بعشقها

فَهمتُ بِها وَجداً وقاطعت جيرَتي

The Pen of the Creator has decreed that I love her

So I yearned intensely for her and cut off my neighbor

هيَ الرُوح وَالرَيحان وَالظبية الَّتي

بِها يَشتَفي العُشاق مِن كُل علة

She is the soul, the sweet basil, the gazelle whom

Lovers remedy all their pains through
