O Riyad—garden of glory and pillar of chivalry—
And Mushir of the Khedive, lord of leadership!
About you the Eagle hastens in your train,
proudly, toward honor’s beacon.
And the British had already bestowed upon you
what brings whoever bears it to his heart’s desire.
Yours, too, is the Crown—a crown of constancy,
keeping faith with its pledge in Egypt’s covenants.
And the ʿAzīzī has light upon your breast,
borrowed from the radiant face of the Imamate.
So wear them all in procession, and unfurl,
to humble the foes, the banner of peace.
When Purity said, “For your glory, set down the date:
For Riyad, we desire every mark of honor.”
