1. Worthy of every kind of praise, together with thanks—

    an emir whose endeavors aim at goodness and righteousness.

  2. He strove while blessed with good fortune, and returned with aid;

    the All-Merciful crowned him with pardon and victory.

  3. His star rose on fortune’s horizon in Egypt,

    and among humankind its radiance surpassed the full moon.

  4. A loving friend exchanged gifts with him in the finest craft,

    creating superbly what gleams proudly among white swords and tawny lances.

  5. Solomon, upon meeting him, spoke highly of him,

    and thus among us he became the peerless man of his time and age.

  6. O you who encompass pure knowledge and wisdom,

    and excellence by which you surpassed all humankind in Egypt;

  7. O you who rose among us through keen discernment,

    and judgment that soared above the two Simāks and the Eagle;

  8. O you through whose art Egypt came to take pride

    above all other lands, on land and sea;

  9. O whole world within a single man, now revealed to us;

    O master of beneficence, prohibition, and command;

  10. O center of knowledge—O you through whom

    the ranks of prosperity, honor, and glory were ennobled;

  11. O axis of the sphere of governance and intelligence;

    O Kaaba of seekers, O you of fragrant renown;

  12. O great tree of deep-rooted glory and generosity;

    O best of all who came and graciously brought good cheer:

  13. Rejoice in the office you have been granted, which encompasses,

    through your merit, all that is hoped for of prestige and rank.

  14. May your fortune among the people remain forever abundant,

    and your star gleam in heaven above the radiant stars.

  15. May you ever remain praised for your endeavors and granted success

    in goodness and sound judgment, until the Resurrection.
