لَما بَدا البُغض وَزال الحُبُّ

مِن خائن لَم يُجدِ فيهِ العَتْبُ

When hatred appeared and love departed

From a traitor with no fault to be found

تَرَكت قَلبي عِندَه مقيداً

وَرحت بِالجسم وَدَمعي صبُّ

I left my heart chained to him

And went away, my body and tears pouring

وَقُلت مُذ فارقته مُؤرخاً

فارقته فراق مَن أُحبُّ

And I said, since I left him and marked the date

I parted from him with the parting of one I loved
