Give me a drink from your sugary lips
For the time has cleared and my joy has increased
And a folded paper brought glad tidings
So my soul rejoiced at the herald paper
How much I concealed my passion fearing the blamer
So my tears revealed my hidden secrets
And how much I veiled my love so I could pretend
But my sickness exposed what was inside me
Why do you blame a gazelle that comes to me
With a neck like a well-crafted idol
Bewitching, with a glance that intoxicated
Harut, with ravishing Babylonian sorcery
She offers from her cheek a shining cup
If I taste it, it will make me forget my troubles
I get jealous if her visitors say "I sacrifice myself for you"
Do I want sacrifice from the weak or the strong?
Her black hair is silent when it rings
Not revealing like the eyelids of the sleepy-eyed
How can blame help with passionate love
That has enchanted the world with its beauty like Joseph
Or how can it console him, besotted with her charm
And ambergris on the cheeks of a tender maiden
And a natural smile, sweet in its flavor
From the goodness of manners and pure morality
He is the grandson, ally of justice, its defender
Abbas Al-Asefy, Lord of the dunes
His grand vizierate was granted to him
By the Sultan of the lands, the doer of great deeds
The mighty one of Egypt and its patron
Whose decisive views subdued adversaries
What an excellent prince he is
Who humbled the arrogant with determination
The caliph's court rejoiced when he visited
And welcomed him with all greetings
He attained what he attained of honor and nobility
Nourishing his years with brilliant flowers
Egypt congratulated itself for his rising
With his righteousness, age and cypress-like stature
This minister who outshone Ibn Za'ida
And Hatim in abundant generosity
He who always spread justice
Until injustice folded up its registers
O Egypt, repent to the Lord of Glory
For all the wrongs, because of him
For some people were ennobled with a position
When they attained and settled into high office
Our patron uniquely honored it, so it was ennobled
With positions that rose above the heavens
And time was generous to Egypt and its inhabitants
With the most lenient of past and future people
And Egypt found itself in honor and nobility
Through the justice of the Lord of sublime justice
And it joyfully sang his praises when he took care of it
Congratulated for winning the Abode of Happiness
And here I offer you a bride adorned with jewelry
Delighted by your excellent praise, not by trite rhymes
And how could she not, my master, when she resembles
Your sweet manners, so gentle and refined
She hopes for acceptance, having come to you singing
Give me a drink from your sugary lips
