بِالبشر في مصر لاحَت غرّة العامِ
تَزهو بِنُور مَليك للحمى حامي
With the glad tidings, the new year dawned in Egypt
It glows with the light of a sovereign who protects the nation
تَزهو بِنُور مَليكٍ غَيثُ راحته
في الكَون طُول المَدى بَينَ الوَرى هامي
It glows with the light of a benevolent sovereign
Whose comfort encompasses the universe and all people
هُوَ الخديوي الَّذي أَوطانُه نَشرت
لِلفَضل في عَصره مَطويّ أَعلام
He is the Khedive whose flags
Were unfurled with merit in his era
وِللتمدّن مدّت باعَها وَإِلى
أَوج العُلا سارعت مِن غَير إِحجام
And for civilization, extended its reach
Rushing to the peak of glory without hesitation
وَأَحرَزت شَأو تَقديم لَها شَهدت
بِهِ البَرية مِن عرب وَأَعجام
And achieved prominence by pioneering
Witnessed by both Arabs and non-Arabs
فَيا لَهُ مِن طَبيب بِالعِلاج مَحا
ما كانَ في جسمها مِن فَرط أَسقام
What a healer he is with his treatment
Of all the terrible illnesses that plagued it
وَأَنَّها بِسَداد مِنهُ قَد بلغت
ما أَمّلت مِن سعادات وَإِكرام
And with his competence it has attained
All the happiness and honor it hoped for
وَأَصبَحت في سَما علياه طالعُها
بِالسعد مقترناً في دار إسلام
And its rising star in the highest heaven
Is paired with good fortune in the abode of Islam
وَكَيفَ وَالنيل فيها حَيث يَأمره
يَجري بخصب مَديد وَافر نامي
And how can it not when the Nile, where he commands it
Flows with abundant, copious fertility
وَكُلُّ شَيء بتقدير العَزيز لَها
يَبدو بِأَحسن تَنظيم وَإِحكام
And everything in it by the Almighty's decree
Appears in the best order and arrangement
وَلِلمَسَرّات في أَرجاء ساحتها
مَواسمٌ ذات آلاء وَإِنعام
And throughout its realm for celebrations
Are seasons of blessings and boons
وَلَم يَكُن قَبلَهُ فيها يُطاف بِهِ
مِن المَباني سِوى أَهرام كفرام
And before him no edifices were toured
Other than the towering pagan pyramids
وَالآن كُلُّ مَكان فيهِ منتزهٌ
زاهٍ لتنوير أَذهان وَأَفهام
And now every place has a scenic resort
Illuminating minds and intellects
وَفيهِ كُل مشيد دون منظره
ما في جَميع بِلاد الروم وَالشام
And in it, all construction beyond its sights
None in all of Rome or Syria can match
وَهَذِهِ مصر قَد أَثنت عَلَيهِ بِما
يَحلو مكرّره في خَير أَيام
And this Egypt has praised him for
Sweet words it keeps repeating in the best of days
وَغرّدت وُرقُها بِالشكر فيهِ عَلى
عَدلٍ بِهِ قَد تحلّى جيدُ أَحكام
And its leaves twitter thanking him
For the justice with which he was finely adorned
وَهمة لم تَزل أَركانُ دَولته
تَعلو بِها فَوق كِيوانٍ وَبهرام
And the resolve with which the pillars of his state
Rise above all others like Kyan or Bahram
وَيقظة نسخت آيات حكمتها
ما كانَ للجهل من غيّ وَأَوهام
And the vigilance that transcribed the signs of its wisdom
Countering ignorance and misconceptions
لا زالَ في كُل عام دهره أَبَداً
يَلقاه فيها بثغر مِنهُ بسام
May he live each year of his time forever
Meeting it with a radiant smile
ما اِزداد بِالحَزم تَوفيقاً إِلى عَمَلٍ
يَزدان فيهِ بِتَأييد وَإِقدام
Increasing in wisdom for deeds
He pursues vigorously and intently
أَو أَقبل المَجد بِالبُشرى يؤرخه
عامٌ بيمن خديوي مصره سامي
Or good fortune heralds with glad tidings
A blessed year of Egypt's noble Khedive
