1. حبيبٌ ملولٌ بالوصالِ بخيلُ

    كريمٌ بهجرِى لاَ إِليهِ سَبِيلُ

    A beloved who is reluctant to unite, yet generous when distant,

    No way to reach him though I yearn.

  2. عزيزٌ كأن الشَمس تحتَ نقابِه

    نهاراً وليلا لَيْسَ عَنْهُ تَزوَلُ

    A dear one who seems to hide behind a veil,

    Never waning, night or day.

  3. يطولُ علىَّ الليلُ مِن هجرِ هاجري

    كذلكَ ليلُ العاشقينَ طويلُ

    The night stretches long when my companion departs,

    Thus pass the nights for those in love.

  4. أعاذلُ كُفَّ العذل عنّي وخَلِّني

    فَلَسْتُ لقولِ العاذلينَ أميلُ

    I reject all blame though blame comes easily,

    For I heed not the words of critics.

  5. ودَعْني أَمُتْ في حبّه وودادِه

    فعِندي كلامُ اللائمينَ ثقيلُ

    Let me die in his love and devotion,

    For the talk of detractors weighs heavy.

  6. إِذَا رُمْتُ أسْلو عنه زادت صَبابتي

    وكيفَ التسلى والفؤادُ عليلُ

    When I try to inquire of him, my turmoil grows,

    How does one find peace when the heart aches?

  7. فيعذرني مَنْ بالمودةِ عالمٌ

    ويعذلُني مِنْ بالغرامِ جَهُولُ

    So let the knowledgeable empathize,

    While the ignorant censure and blame.

  8. فيا قاتلي مَهْلا ورِمْقاً بعاشِق

    فلا شكَّ داءُ العاشقين دَخِيلُ

    O my killer, have patience and grace for a lover,

    Surely the pain of lovers is lingering.

  9. ولما جَفانِي واستطَالَ بِهَجْرِه

    رجعتُ إلى م في الزمانِ خليلُ

    When he shunned me and prolonged his absence,

    I returned to the eternal Friend.

  10. فمالي سِوى الشيخِ التقىِّ ابن راشدٍ

    مِنَ الخلق طُرّاً والأنامُ كفيلُ

    None but the virtuous Shaykh Ibn Rashid

    Stands tall among people and is worthy of trust.

  11. وعذتُ بمسعود أخي الجودِ والندَى

    يُنِيلُ البرايَا والسنينُ مُحُولُ

    I found solace in my brother Mas'ud and his generosity,

    Who rains bounty while years fade.

  12. شُجَاعٌ شدِيدٌ باسلٌ متسنِّمٌ

    يصادمُ ألفاً لا يكادُ يمِيلُ

    Brave, firm, valiant, distinguished,

    Charging thousands, barely swaying.

  13. كريمٌ شديدُ البأسِ لا مثلُه فتىً

    ولا مثلُه في الأكرمين مثيلُ

    A peerless youth among the noble ones,

    None can equal him among the generous.

  14. عطاياهُ المعافينَ غيثٌ وكفُّه

    سحابٌ على أهلِ الزمانِ تسيلُ

    His gifts sustain people like a rainfall,

    His palm clouds raining on mankind.

  15. فمنْ ذَا كمسعودٍ سلالةِ راشدٍ

    نوالٌ سخىٌّ في الأنام جَزيلُ

    Who compares to Mas'ud, scion of Rashid,

    Bounty and grace abundantly bestowed?

  16. كثيرُ قريض الشعرِ في مدِح سيدِي

    ملاذِ الورَى يا صاحبيّ قليلُ

    Though I've written profuse verse praising my lord,

    My companion, still it is but little.
