يا مَن تَحلّى بِالمَعارف وَاِشتَهرْ

وَعَلى بَني الآداب في مَصر اِفتَخرْ

O you who donned knowledge and gained fame

And prided yourself among the literati of Egypt

نعم المَصونة إِذ حبتك بِأَغيد

يا فاضِلاً أَربى عَلى البَدر الأَغر

Well guarded, for your love has brought ecstasy

O exceptional one nurtured by the full moon

وَبَدا بِثاني عَشر خامس أَشهر ال

عام المبارك وَالسَنا مِنهُ اِنتَشَر

Who appeared on the twelfth of Sha'ban

In the blessed year whose goodness spread

وَبوضعه في الجيزة الغَرّا سَمَت

أَمس الخَميس بِهِ وَساعدها القَدر

And by his birth in Cairo the splendid

On Thursday night, aided by destiny

فَلذاك قُلت مُبَشِّراً وَمؤرّخاً

بُشرى بِأَحمَدٍ الفَريد هُوَ القَمَر

Thus I say, giving glad tidings and dating

Good news! Ahmad the unique, he is the moon
