قَد قَبَسَ القابِساتِ قابوسُ
وَنجمُهُ في السَماءِ مَنحوسُ
Qābūs has borrowed fire from the flame-bearing stars;
yet his own star in the heavens is ill-fated.
وَكَيفَ يُرجى الفَلاحُ مِن رَجُلٍ
يَكونُ في آخِر اِسمه بوسُ
How can prosperity be hoped for from a man
when the end of his very name is būس—misery?
