مُتَغايِراتٌ قَد جُمِعنَ وَكلُّها
مُتَشاكل أَشباحُها أَرواحُ
Things unlike one another have been gathered, yet all of them
are alike in form—their bodies are spirits.
وَإِذا أَرَدتَ مصرِّحاً تَفسيرها
فَالراحُ وَالمِصباحُ وَالتُفاحُ
Should you wish their meaning plainly disclosed,
they are wine, the lamp, and apples.
لَو يَعلَمُ الساقي وَقَد جُمِّعنَ لي
من أَيِّ هذي تُملَأُ الأَقداحُ
If only the cupbearer knew—now that they have been gathered for me—
from which of these the goblets are filled!
