إِلَى مثلِ لُقياكم تُزَمُّ الرّكائِب

ونحوَكُم تُحدى القِلاص السَّلاهِب

To meet the likes of you, the travelers hasten

And towards you the brave warriors challenge

ونورُكمُ يجلو الغَياهبَ عِندَما

تقيِّدُ أبناءَ السّبيلِ الغَياهِب

Your light illuminates the darkness when

You guide the wayward travelers

ويُثني عليك الرَّكبُ ما أنتَ أهلُه

وتُثني المطايا تَحتَهُم والحَقَائِب

And the caravan praises you as you deserve

While their rides and belongings praise you underneath them

وَأنت إِمَامُ العِلم غَيرَ مُنازَعٍ

وَكَتبُكِ فِي أَهلِ الضَّلال كَتَائِب

You're the undisputed leader of knowledge

And your books about the misguided ones are momentous

وَمَا ضَرَّ قُطراً أَنتَ فيهِ مُبَرّز

عَلَى الغَيثِ أن لا تنتحيه السَّحائِب

It doesn't harm a land where you reside

If clouds conceal the rain from it

بِكَفِّكُم واللهُ يَكلأُ حِفظها

مَنافِعُ تُزرى بالحَيَا ومَشَارِب

Through your care, sustained by shyness and drink

Are benefits covered with life and waterholes

وَفي حُكمِك الفصلُ المُنَزّه يَستوي

بعيدٌودانٍ أو عدُوٌّ وصاحِب

And your pristine, impartial rule treats equally

Both friend and foe and enemy

إذا انفَصلَ الخَصمانِ مِن عندِك ارتَضَى

بحُكمِكَ مطلوبٌ هناكَ وطالِب

When two opponents leave your presence, pleased

With your rule - the demander and claimant there

وأفصحَ بالشُّكر الجزِيل كلاهما

كأنَّ كِلا الخَصمين عِندكَ غَالِب

Each profusely thanking you

As if at your side both opponents have won

وكان اختياري أَن أَفوزَ بِقُرِبكم

فَتُدركَ آمالٌ وتُقضى مَآرِب

And my choice was to gain your proximity

So hopes can be realized and troubles resolved

فكُنتُ على حين الديار بَعِيدة

وللشَّوق منِّي والمَحَبّة جانِب

While from the dwellings I was far away

And longing and love for you played a role

أحِنُّ إِليكُم كلّما مَرّ راكِبٌ

وكُلِّي حنانٌ كلّما مرّ راكِب

I yearned for you whenever a rider passed

And I was full of affection whenever a rider passed

فلمّا أتاح اللهُ لي قربَ دارِكم

دعَتني إلى زَمّ القِلاص النّوائِب

So when God allowed me the nearness of your abode

It called me to restrain the attacking adversities

وخاصَمَني فيكم فراقٌ عَهِدتُه

يطاعِنُ من دون المُنَى وَيُضارِب

And an absence I had grown accustomed to battled me

Assailing me without respite and striking

فَبِنتُ ولمّا أَقضِ حقّ وَداعِكم

ويا شَدَّ ما ضاقَت عَلَيّ المذاهِب

So I bid farewell before fulfilling the right of your farewell

Oh how difficult the roads have been for me

وَما عاقَني إِلا انحفازٌ بِسحرة

أجابَت بِهِ دَعوى الحُداة النّجائب

And nothing prevented me except an enchanting departure

Answering the call of the passionate goodbyes

بِلَيلٍ كقَلبي إذ حُرمت وَداعكم

وغيثٍ كَدمعي مُستهلٌّ وساكِب

At night that was like my heart when denied your farewell

And rain like my spilling, pouring tears

فإن تسألوني بالزّمانِ وصَرفِه

فَعِنديَ مِن ذَمّ الزمانِ عَجَائِب

If you ask me about time and its circumstances

I have wondrous things to say about blaming time
