لا دَرَّ درُّ مَعشَرٍ أنجَاسِ

سادوا وقادوا في بني العباسِ

No good comes from the companionship of vile men.

They ruled and led the Abbasids,

عاشرتُهم فضيَّقُوا أنَفاسي

كأنّهم من ثِقلِهم مَراسِ

Yet their company suffocated me,

As if their very existence oppressed me.

تُحِبُّ دنيانا خِسَاسَ الناسِ

ما أشبهَ الأجناسَ بالأَجناسِ

You love a world inhabited by the lowest of men.

How alike each breed of scum is to the rest!
