1. قد ينفعُ الأدَبُ الأحداثَ في مَهَلٍ

    وليس يَنفَعُ عند الكَبرَة الأدَبُ

    Poetry may help the weak at due leisure -

    But poetry's useless 'gainst calamity's pressure.

  2. إنَّ الغُصُونَ إذا قوَّمتها اعتَدَلَت

    ولن تَلِينَ إذا قَوَّمتَها الخُشُبُ

    Branches, when tender, by wisdom you're able to bend;

    Hardened to timber, they'll nevermore mend.
