1. لا أُلفِيَنَّكَ ثاويا في غُربَةٍ

    إنَّ الغريبَ بِكلِّ سَهمٍ يُرشَقُ

    I will not find you settled in a foreign land

    For the stranger is struck by every arrow

  2. والناسُ في طَلَبِ المَعَاشِ وإنّما

    بالجدِّ يُرزَقُ منهم من يُرزَقُ

    And people seek livelihood, yet

    Only those destined are provided

  3. ولَو أنَّهم رُزِقوا على أقدارهم

    ألفيتَ أكثرَ ما ترى يَتَصدَّقُ

    And if they were given according to their worth

    You would find most of them begging

  4. ما الناسُ إلا عاملانِ فعاملٌ

    قد مات من عَطَشٍ وآخرُ يَغرَقُ

    People are but two workers; one

    Died of thirst, while the other drowns
