هَاجَكَ مِنْ أَرْوَى كَرَسِّ الأَسْقَامْ

وَمَنْزِلٍ بَالٍ كَخَطِّ الأَقْلامْ

You were troubled by one from the lush meadows of the diseased

And a home in ruins like the lines of pens

وَالدَهْرُ يَهْوِي بِالفَتَى فِي أَسْوامْ

إِلَى تَقَضِّي أَجَلٍ أَوْ إِهْرامْ

And fate makes the young man fall into abysses

Until his predetermined death or perdition

وِمِنْ عَناءِ المَرْءِ طُولُ التَهْيَامْ

وَبَلْدَةٍ فِي ضَاحِلٍ وَأَقْتامْ

And from the toil of man, prolonging worries

And a country on the coasts and darkness

عَلَى هَوَادِيهَا أُرُومُ الآرامْ

خَوْصَاءَ تَرْمِي رَكْبَهَا بِالأَجْرَامْ

On its valleys the tents of Aram

A barren land where its rides are thrown with rocks

بَيْنَ البَيَادِي مِنْ صَدَاها الهَيَّامْ

مِنْ صائِحِ الهامِ وَبُوم الأَبْوامْ

Between the deserts from its terrible howls

From the screams of beasts and hooting of owls

بادَرْتُ وِرْداً مِنْ قَطَاهَا النَأَّامْ

إِلَى مُحِيلَاتِ المَسَاقِي أَسْدامْ

I reached a stream from its sleeping springs

To the diverter of channels, lions' dens

مِنْ دَاثِرٍ دَفْرٍ وَمِنْ داوٍ طامْ

يَصْدُرْنَ فِي عَارِي المَعَارِي نَهَّامْ

From people in the bare hills roaming angrily

With short spears they stab among the dunes

بِقُلُصٍ يَصْدُعْنَ بَيْن الأَوْجَامْ

ضَرْحَ المَعَالِي عَنْ قِيَاس الأَنْشامْ

Wounding the heights beyond the measure of glances

You see the gleam of their weapons in the thickets

تَرَى ذُرَى أَصْوَائِهَا فِي الآكامْ

يَقْمِصْنَ فِي الآلِ اهْتِزازَ الدُوَّامْ

They diminish in bands the shaking of lances

And I said the words of an all-encompassing protector

وَقُلْت أَقْوَالَ مُحِيطٍ عَمَّامٍْ

لَا يَنْبَغِي الذِكْرُ بِضِبْسٍ شَتّامْ

It is not proper to mention with abusive and insulting language

And my praise of my people by denying raiders

وَمِدْحَتِي قَوْمِي بِمَنْعِي الأَحْشامْ

إِنَّ تَمِيماً بِمُنىً بِالإِتْمَامْ

Indeed Tamim fulfills with perfection

And every stead galloped strongly joined together

وَنَجَلَتْ كُلُّ حَصانٍ مِتْآمْ

لَهُ عَلَى رَغْمِ الحَسُودِ الرَغَّامْ

For it despite the envious talebearers

With every praised noble club

بِكُلِّ مَحْمُودِ الدَسِيعِ هِلْقامُ

إِنَّ تَمِيماً تُبْتَلَى بِأَقْوامْ

Indeed Tamim is tested by nations

Who are neither uncles nor paternal uncles

لَيْسُوا بِأَخْوَالٍ وَلَا بِأَعْمَامْ

لَنَا إِذَا اهْتَزَّ الشَبَا فِي الأَشْطامْ

When the youth shook their spears in the thickets

They do not overstep the limits of Islam

لَا يَتَوَقُّونَ حُدُودَ الإِسْلَامْ

مِنْ رِقَّةِ الدِينِ وَبُعْد الأَرْحامْ

Out of the weakness of the faith and the cutting off of wombs

The most wicked of parties and evil of groups

أَخْبَثُ أَحْزابٍ وَشَرُّ أَحْزامْ

ناصِرُهُمْ مِنْ فَاسِقٍ وَخَدَّامْ

Their supporters are corrupt and servants

Among them Lukayz and it is the evilest of reptiles

مِنْهُمْ لُكَيْزٌ وَهْيَ شَنُّ الأَصْرَامْ

وَنُكْرُهَا العَادُّونَ طُور الأَقْسامْ

And we detest those who barter the shares

While the lion, the lion, are the young of dreams

وَالأَسْدُ وَالأَسْدُ صِغَار الأَحْلامْ

رُدُّوا إِلَى قَمَاءَةٍ وَأَلآمْ

Take them back to humiliation and pain

Close your mouths with gags

سُدُّوا عَلَى أَفْوَاهِكُمْ بِالْفَدَّامْ

عُبَّادُ نَصْرَانِيَّةٍ وَأَصْنامْ

Servants of Christianity and idols

Barriers from the crowding of a crammed corner

مَحَاجِزٌ عَنْ زَحْمِ رُكْنٍ زَحَّامْ

مِنَّا لأَرْكانِ الأَعادِي رَتّامْ

We are for the pillars of enemies pelters

Far from it! They do not approach except to disappear

أَيْهَاتَ لَا يَدْنُونَ إِلَّا لِلرَّامْ

وَلَوْ دَنَوْا قِضْنَا يَأَافِيخَ الْهَامْ

And if they approached, we would finish off the swooping eagles

With every strong, firm, powerful

بِكُلِّ غَرْبَيْ قَلَعِيٍّ صَمْصَامْ

وَأَذْرُعَ القَوْمِ بِخَفْقِ جَذَّامْ

And the torn limbs with the slapping of slaughter

When we pelt their group with catapults

إِذَا رَجَمْنَا جَمْعَهُمْ بِمِرْجامْ

مِرْدىً لِعَيْزارِ الجِبالِ هَدَّامْ

Fodder for the destroying mountain goats

And they have already seen at the beginning of time

وَقَدْ رَأَوْا فِي مُسْتَهِلٍّ زَمْزَامْ

ذي لَجَبِ مَجْرٍ كَأَرْكَانِ الدَامْ

One with the courage of an flooding, overflowing sea

A battalion for the brave translator

كَتِيبَةً لِلتَرْجُمَانِ المِقْدامْ

خَاضَ بِهَا أَشْجَعُ غَيْرُ خَيّامْ

He penetrated with it without being a secluded tent-dweller

Abodes away from the sanctuaries of pilgrims

مُنازِلٌ عَنْ حَرُمات الأَحْرَامْ

لَيْسَ بِوَقَّافٍ وَلَا بِوَجَّامْ

Neither a servant nor a buffoon

When the veiled women held onto modesty

إِذَا الكُمَاةُ اسْتَمْسَكُوا بِالأَعْصامْ

وَكَعْكَع الهَيْبَةُ أَهْلَ الإِحْجامْ

And the awe marched the people of composure

Through it Allah protected the honor of sheltered women

بِهِ حَمَى اللَّهُ اجْتِلاء الأَرْآمْ

مِنَ النِسَاءِ المُشْفِقاتِ الحُوَّامْ

From the compassionate, tent-dwelling women

And the twisting days turned away from us

وَزَلَّ عَنَّا مُعْضِلات الأَيَّامْ

وَشُبَهُ العَارِ وَسَوْآتُ العَامْ

And the shame of dishonor and scandal of the year

So the fang of every biter turned away from us

فَارْتَدَّ عَنَّا نابُ كُلِّ كَدَّامْ

وَقَدْ رَأَوْا أُسْداً كَأُسْدِ الآجامْ

And they have already seen a lion like the lions of thickets

And the lion feared the lion of composure

وَهَابَتِ الآسُدَ أُسْدُ الإِحْجامْ

وَنَكَلُوا بَعْدَ اللِفافِ الضَمَّامْ

And they slipped away after the deceitful curling up

Fleeing salvation and fearing with dwarfs

نَجَوْا فِراراً وَاتَّقُوا بِالأَقْزامْ

وَالحَكَمُ العَمْرِيُّ خَيْر الأَحْطامْ

And the Hakam, the commander, is the best of those who perished

He walks when the faces of fools frown

يَمْضِي إِذَا كَلَّتْ وَجُوه الأَكْهامْ

أَزْهَرُ ذُو حَمِيَّةٍ وَإِعْلامْ

The brightest, most prestigious and glorified

Shelter of those who seek and shelter of orphans

كَهْفُ المُرَادِينَ وَكَهْف الأَيْتامْ

يَصْدُقُ فِي البَأْسِ وَعِنْدَ الإِطْعامْ

Truthful in war and when feeding

تَعَجَّلَ المَعْبُوطُ قَبْلَ الإِعْتامْ

لِلضَّيْفِ وَالجَارِ وَمَلْقَى جَثّامْ

For the guest, neighbor and receiving newcomers

The high-born women knew that

قَدْ عَلِمَتْ ذَاكَ نِساء الأَبْرامْ

وَسَارَ جبْهَانُ بِرَأْسٍ صَدّامْ

And Jabhan walked with a charging head

From a band who refuse the injustice of oppressors

مِنْ نَفَرٍ يَأْبُونَ ظُلْمَ الظَلَّامْ

يَمْضِي بِهِمْ فِي عارِضٍ ذِي قُدَّامْ

He walks with them openly with readiness

And the horses from their neighing and holding back

وَالخَيْلُ مِنْ نَقْرَتِها وَإِجْذَامْ

يُدْمِي الشَكِيمُ أُدْمَهَا بِالإِئزَامْ

Their galloping feet make blood gush with coercion

From pulling them and their trampling in the raids

مِنْ جَذْبِهِمْ وَدَعْسِها فِي الإِلْجَامْ

مِنْ نَصْرِهِمْ وَثَبْتِنَا بِالإِقْدامْ

From their help, and our steadfastness with boldness

And the clamor of the army, firmly determined

وَلَغَطُ الجَيْشِ مُصِمُّ الإِصْمَامْ

كَأَن أَصْوَاتَهُمُ فِي حَمَّامْ

As if their voices were in a bathroom

When they meet in deep darkness and dimness

إِذَا الْتَقَوْا فِي لَجَّةٍ وَغَمْغَامْ

وَالمِشْوَذ السَامِي بِرَدِّ أَوْهَامْ

And the eminent minister with the rebuttal of delusions

Blessed, fills the eye of the blind

مُبَارَكٌ يَمْلأُ عَيْنَ المُعْتَامْ

مُطَوَّقٌ أَوْقَ الأُمُورِ الأَعْظامْ

Collared with the greatest and most serious matters

With every reviver in which women persist

بِكُلِّ نَهَّاضٍ بِهِنَّ قَوَّامْ

لَيْسَ عَلَى شَيْءٍ مَضَى بِلَوَّامْ

Not blaming anything that has passed

Relieving the worry of grueling matters

مُفَرِّجٌ غَمَّ الأُمُور الأَعْقامْ

بِاللَّهِ مِنْ جَهْدِ البَلَاءِ العَمّامْ

By God, from the hardship of enveloping affliction

Like a lion whose resting place is guarded

كَاللَيْثِ يَحْمِيهِ افْتِراش الأَوْضامْ

إِذَا شَحَا عَضَّ بِنابَيْ ضَغّامْ

When food is scarce he bites with two tearing incisors

Biting and swooping with a growling throat

مَضْغاً وَيهْوِي فِي لُهَامٍ ضَمْضَامْ

يَرُدُّ عَنْهُ بِالزَئِيرِ الهَمْهَامْ

He drives away from him with a roaring howl

And he throws every little lizard with his claws

وَيَخْتَلِي بِالقَصْلِ كُلَّ ضِرْغامْ

وَالصِيدُ يَخْفِضْنَ لَهُ بِاسْتِسلامْ

And the prey bows down to him in surrender

And there came the beating of the orphans' tambourines

وَجَاءَ دُفَّاعُ الرِباب الأَيْتامْ

وَزَخَرَتْ سَعْدٌ بِعِزٍّ قَمْقامْ

And Saad flourished with enduring honor

Like the night satisfying you from the blackened dunes

كَاللَيْلِ يَكْفِيكَ قُرُوم الأَهْضامْ

يَهْدِي هَوَادِيهمْ بِتِمِّهَا التَام

Guiding their valleys with its perfect completion

They built stars illuminated and banners

بَنُوا نُجُومٍ نُوِّرَتْ وَأَعْلامْ

مَعَاقِلٌ لِلنَاسِ عِنْدَ الإِعْدامْ

Refuges for people at destruction

A people who have the proud courage of clubs

قَوْمٌ لَهُمْ هَامَةُ عِزٍّ صِلْدَامْ

وَنَادِخٌ جَاشَ بِطِمٍّ طَمَّامْ

And Nadikh overflowing with a unifying seal

With them we broke the nose of every fumbler

بِهِمْ خَزَمْنَا أَنْفَ كُلِّ قَمْقامْ
