إِذَا ما المَوْت أَقْبَلَ قَبْلَ قَوْمٍ

أَكَبَّ الحَظُّ وَانْتَقَصَ العَدِيدُ

When death comes upon a people,

Luck fails and numbers dwindle.

أَرانا لا يُفيقُ المَوْتُ مِنَّا

كَأَنَّ المَوْتَ إِيَّانَا يَكِيدُ

It seems that death will not spare us -

As if death is plotting against us.
