يَلْمَحْنَ مِنْ كُلِّ غَمِيسٍ مُبْقِلِ

جَلَّى بَصِيرَ العَيْنِ لَمْ يُكَلَّلِ

He glimpses from every frowning face, sullen,

He made manifest the keen-eyed one's vision unobstructed,

فَانْقَضَّ يَهْوِي مِنْ بَعِيدِ المَخْتَلِ

إِنَّ سُلَيْمانَ اشْتَلانا ابْنَ عَلِي

So he plunged downwards, falling from far-off heights,

Verily, Sulaiman is our choicest son of Ali,

ما لَكَ لا تَجرُفُها بِالقَنْقَلِ

لا خَيْرَ في الكَمْأَةِ إِنْ لَمْ تَفْعَلِ

Why, you do not scoop it out with a shovel!

No good in the wheat bran if you do not do it.
