يا لَيْتَ شِعْرِي عَنْكُمُ حَنِيفا
وَقَدْ جَدَعْنا مِنْكُمُ الأُنُوفا
Oh, would I knew of you when hale,
Though from you we tore the nose in gale,
أَتَحْمِلُونَ بَعْدَنا السُيُوفا
أَوْ تَغْزِلُونَ الخِرْفِعَ المَنْدُوفا
Bear you after us the glaives still,
Or do you card the combed wool bale?
إِنَّ الرَبيعَ الجَوْدَ وَالخَرِيفا
يَدَا أَبِي العَبَّاسِ وَالصُيُوفا
Lo, the spring, the rain and the autumn,
