إن يحسب الجاهلون اليوم يومهم

فالعقل فينا له رهط واجناد

If the ignorant think this is their day

Reason among us has its groups and armies

ادولة دولة الأغرار قد نهضوا

إلى المناصب والاكفاء اشهاد

The state of the gullible has arisen

To positions though the worthy are few

ترشحوا للمعالي وهي راغبة

عن مثلهم ولها في الحي آساد

They crept up to glories though she hates their like

Having among the living hyenas and lions

تزينوا قبل تعنيب ومثلهم

إلى الفضيحة بين الناس ينقاد

With what merit or knowledge have you been ennobled

To lead a rabble given to ignorance?

بأي فضل وعلم بارز نجبت

لديك شرذمة للجهل ترتاد

Is this what we hope for today from past glory?

Can the like of them provide support?

أذاك ما نرتجيه اليوم من سبق

وهل بامثالها للسبق امداد

If our silence has fooled them we are not

Made of cowardice or resignation

ان كان قد غرها منا السكوت فما

في الصمت جبن ولا عجز وإخلاد

Or did you want for us a cause of shame among all

When the people are free and have renown

أو كنت تبغي لنا بين الورى سببا

للعار فالقوم أحرار وأمجاد

They have a frank tongue not frightened to speak

The truth though slanderers hate its sound

لهم لسان جير بالحقيقة لا

يخيفه في مقال الصدق حساد

You want a people as rulers whom greed for office does not tempt

Nor intimidate the flashing and rumbling of threat

تروم للحكم قوما لا تغرهم

إلى المناصب اطماع وارفاد

We want rulers whom pursuit of right does not frighten

From the path of truth's lightning and storm

نروم للحكم قوما ليس يرهبهم

في جانب الحق ابراق وارعاد

We want a people of knowledge and position among us

Pillars of homelands and glory's adornment

نروم قوما لهم علم ومنزلة

فينا وركن لأوطان وانجاد

A blessing if rule were in our hands

While ignorance judges and perfidy tortures

أنعمة ان يكون الحكم في يدنا

والجهل قاض ورب المكر جلاد

It does not harm us if our neighbor rules

While knowledge and justice are helpers and supporters

ما ضرنا ان يكون الجار حاكمنا

والعلم والعدل انصار واعضاد

We have set an example in our goals and scattering

And in our gathering success and prosperity

أنا بنوا أثلة في شتنا ضعة

وفي تجمعنا نجح واسعاد

After an exile no one says to one who's absent

Welcome, or to one returned: Greetings to you

أبعد غربة دهر لا يقال لمن

قد غاب أهلا بمن غابوا ومن عادوا

You have returned to us raising deceit's banner

And all your efforts are division and corruption

عاودتنا بلواء الافك تنشره

وكل سعيك تفريق وافساد

Not the Turks have divided us though they

Claimed no lineage to Arabs they could marshal

ما فرق الترك فيما بيننا وهم

لم يدعوا نسبا للعرب ينقاد

Far be it from my people to accept division

Among them the Lord of distinction and judgement

حاشا لقومي أن يرضوا بتفرقة

وبينهم رب تمييز ونقاد

Only events have divided the young after an era

To their folk they returned and recalled their first days

إن الألى فرق الحدثان شملهم

من بعد دهر إلى أقوامهم عادوا

This land and that are some forelocks that have

Returned to a union made for them from time immemorial

هذي البلاد وذي بعض الصقالب قد

عادت لشمل له في الأرض أعياد

Look to the people of wisdom who have sacrificed

Their souls see how by consensus they've ruled

انظر إلى القوم أهل الحزم من بذلوا

نفوسهم كيف بالاجماع قد سادوا

After fifty years during which it was wrested from them

To restore it with their souls they have striven

من بعد خمسين عاما منهم اغتصبت

أرض إلى ردها بالنفس قد جادوا

And they knew us a roused nation that hastened

To agriculture and built lofty pillars

وهم لقد عرفونا أمة نشطت

إلى الفلاح وقوما للعلى شادوا

Weak then were we, feathers ruffled and crestfallen

Is it right with you to divide and isolate?

فهل ونحن ضعاف ريشنا خضل

يجوز عندك تفريق وابعاد

While the land is desolate and the house far

With no wealth or supplies along our way

والأرض خاوية والدار قاصية

وليس في رحلنا مال ولا زاد

To attain success when nations their shards have united

And your company by schism has cried and called

أنبلغ النجح والأقوام يجمعها

شمل وصحبك بالتفكيك قد نادوا

We want a union to lift us to high place

A path and ascension knowledge alone makes

إنا نحن إلى شمل يكون به

إلى المعالي بنا نهج وإصعاد

Every land has wealth enough for its needs

All of us above greed are ascetics

وكل أرض لها مال تعيش به

وكلنا بسوى العرفان زهاد

I think well of my people whatever they do

More than that you divide them out of rancor and hatred

إني اضن بقومي كيفما فعلوا

من أن يفرقهم غل واحقاد
