1. زرت لندنّ ربّة المدن والشم

    س تجلت انوارها في الرياض

    I visited London, mistress of cities and suns

    Her lights shone in the meadows

  2. نعمة تلك لست أجحدها إذ

    أفق لندن دائم الانقباض

    Yes, that blessing I do not deny as

    The horizon of London is ever contracting

  3. ان تكن شمسها قد احتجبت فال

    نور فيها كالبرق في الايماض

    If her sun has hidden itself, still

    The light in it is like lightning in the clouds' darkness

  4. غير اني وجدتها جنب باري

    ز الفتاة الهيفاء ذات المخاض

    Except I found it next to Paris

    Like the lanky girl undergoing labor

  5. كهلة إن تسترت أو تعرت

    شيب منها الجمال بالانقباض

    Aged, whether she covers up or strips naked

    Beauty in her contracts with graying

  6. لو يكون الجمال في بسطة الجسم

    لحازته دون وجه اعتراض

    Were beauty in amplitude of body

    She would have it without objection

  7. فلها كل شارع كليال

    من اشد الشتا طوال عراض

    For every street of hers is a night

    Of severe winter, long and bare

  8. ولها من قصورها كل قصر

    يترك الطرف حاسرا في انخفاض

    And of her palaces each palace

    Leaves the eyes downcast in humility

  9. ولها كل متحف قد حوى ما

    عز من جوهر ومن أعراض

    And each museum of hers has contained

    What is precious of essence and attributes

  10. ولها من جنانها كل روض

    مفرد الاخضرار بين الرياض

    And of her gardens each meadow

    Singular in greenery amongst the meadows

  11. ثم فيها التأميز كالسين يجري

    وكثير من واسعات الحياض

    Then in it subtlety flows like a rivulet

    And much of the broad smiles

  12. وجرت تحت أرضها عجلات

    حسن اتقانها وراء التقاضي

    And beneath its ground wheels rolled

    Their perfect construction behind inquiries

  13. حركتها للكهرباء اياد

    حاضر الأمر عندها فعل ماض

    Moving it, hands of electricity

    The present order manifest in past deeds

  14. ومغان للهو والأنس فيها

    ما تحب النفوس من أغراض

    And entertainments and pleasures in it

    That souls desire of purposes

  15. ونساء يعرضن في سوق فسق

    ويبعن الأعراض بالأعراض

    And women display in the market of corruption

    And sell honor with honor

  16. ثم فيها من المحاسن والاض

    اد ما في باريز ذات الارباض

    Then in it, of beauties and gentilities

    What is in Paris, she of open arms

  17. غير ان الجمال ليس يروق ال

    عين الا بنسبة الأبعاض

    Except that beauty pleases the eye

    Only in proportion of limbs

  18. كل شيء يبدو بباريز في أب

    دع طرز من الجمال المفاض

    Everything in Paris appears in most

    Refined styles of overflowing beauty

  19. حاز سكانها من الذوق اسما

    ه ونال الانأم محض النفاض

    Its inhabitants attained thereby a name

    And received inspiration's mere outpouring
