1. في إثر سعيد يا أسعد

    أبذاك قضى الدهر الأنكد

    After Sa'eed, O most fortunate one

    Has fate spent the most miserable time

  2. ما أقرب بينا بينكما

    ما أبعد قصدا ما أبعد

    How close we were, how close you two were

    How far the intention, how far

  3. الصبر عصي بعدكما

    والدمع جري لا يجمد

    Patience is difficult after you both

    And tears flow, never freezing

  4. فإذا فكرت بفقدكما

    الفيت حياة لا تحمد

    When I think of losing you both

    I find a life not to be praised

  5. علمان مكانهما اخلى

    من ذا يملأ بحرا قد مد

    Two pillars, their places now empty

    Who can fill this outstretched sea?

  6. فإذا كتبا وإذا خطبا

    لا تدري أيهما الأجود

    When they wrote or made a speech

    You cannot tell which was more eloquent

  7. والشعر اطاعهما فهما

    بقوافيه كل أوحد

    And poetry obeyed them, so they

    Were unmatched in rhyme

  8. وإذا ساجلت فأيهما

    عاينت تجد ثقة ارشد

    And if you disputed, which one

    Would you see as more rightly guided?

  9. وتظنهما لحيائهما

    مما رفدا كمن استرفد

    You’d think them, for their shyness

    As if they gained what they earned

  10. وإذا وازنت الناس ورم

    ت شبيههما فلقد تجهد

    And if you weighed people and tossed

    Their likeness, you’d struggle to find any

  11. يعتز جليسهما بهما

    ويبيت الحاسد كالابلد

    Their companion prides himself on them

    While the envious sleeps sightless

  12. وإذا خاضا في فن ما

    جاء بالمضعف والمسند

    And if they delved into any art

    They came with the double and the supported

  13. لله مجالسنا اللآتي

    قد جاد بها زمن ارغد

    God bless the gatherings we had

    In times more carefree

  14. كانت عقدا في جيد ال

    أيام فباغتها المرصد

    They were a necklace around the neck

    Of happy days, then torn apart

  15. يا احسن من عاشرت ومن

    صادقت مغيبا أو مشهد

    O best of those I kept company with and befriended

    Whether absent or present

  16. روحا ملكين قد اتخذا

    جسمين فما لهما من ند

    Two angelic souls who took

    Bodies - nothing compares

  17. فضل وفضائل قد بهرت

    وذكا ونهى قد جاز الحد

    Virtue and merits dazzled

    Wit and prohibition surpassed limits

  18. اخلاقهما خلصت وصفت

    مما ازرى أو ما افسد

    Their manners sincere and flawless

    From any fault or corruption

  19. لم اسمع لفظا مكروها

    لهمايوما هزلا أو جد

    Never did I hear an unpleasant word

    From them, joking or serious

  20. فسرورهما ووقارهما

    لم يفترقا صد عن صد

    Their joy and dignity

    Never parted, close as close can be

  21. جريا في الفضل إلى أمد

    لا يدركه من لم يسهد

    Running in virtue to a time

    None can reach unless exerting utmost effort

  22. جبلا حلم كم قد هزأآ

    بالدهر وكم سهم سدد

    Two mountains of patience mocked

    Fate and aimed many arrows

  23. عصفت بهما ريح نكر

    وأغصهما يوم اسود

    A wind of calamity blew against them

    And choked them one dark day

  24. يوم للرحلة مرتهن

    ذو الروح فلاحيّ مخلد

    A day of destined departure

    The soul owner has no eternal abode

  25. والذكر لصاحبه باق

    ما احسن صنعا أو مهد

    And the memory of its companion remains

    How excellent their work or path

  26. تذكاركما يا خير أخلا

    ئي الفواح بعرف الند

    Your remembrance, O best of noble brothers

    Lasting forever with the scent of amity

  27. ابدا باق ما دامت في

    أرض الأحيا ذكرى تحمد

    God is guarantor in the Gardens

    Of an age without end

  28. واللّه كفيل في الجنا

    ت بعمر ثان لا ينفد
