I forgave so that I would not want reproach
You have renewed for me, O fate, the covenant of youth
Play and laugh as we desire
With a thousand cheeks without blame and reproach
And cast away those female archers with what
They cast at us like motes
Colored that you think stars
Fallen upon the walkway like clouds
We pelt them in the face of those we desire
In the middle of the street without a veil
They veil with their hands faces that have become
Suns fearing that they would be struck
So we follow them without their noticing us
Except that our hands have come upon their necks
Until if a glance is displayed
From us we pelt a pelting like heavy rain
And between all this a word
Sweet and rebuke in which there is no anger
And a leap like lightning or a cry
That does not startle the striker from the beating
Or a stolen kiss which excess desire dragged
That was not in the account
A day and night we have cast off life
From us far away since we donned the mask
By God how good is our abode
Paris where there is youth for all time
O day of Paris the wished for dawn upon us
O night of Paris the clear pour sparks
