يا ثلج في مصبحي وفي غسقي
يا ثلج في مفرقي وفي طرقي
O snow in my dawn and dusk

ضيقت يا ثلج كل منفرج
يا ثلج ضيقت واسع الخلق
You have narrowed, O snow, every aperture
O snow, you have narrowed the vast creation
فرقت يا ثلج شمل متصل
قطعت اسباب كل مرتزق
You have separated, O snow, joined kinfolk
You have cut off the ties of every breadwinner
يا أبيض الوجه غير محتشم
سودت عيش الالوف بالبرق
O white-faced without dignity
You have blackened the lives of thousands with lightning
يا من تحاكي الهواء خفّته
أصبحت فوق القلوب كالطبق
O you who mimic the air in its lightness
You have become above hearts like a helmet
ويا نزيلا فينا نزول ضنى
في الجسم غادرتنا على رمق
And O a guest in us, a guest of distress
In the body you have left us on the verge of death
ويا ثقيلا حلا ومرتحلا
اصبحت مثل القذاة في الحدق
And O heavy, sweet and transient
You have become like motes in the eyes
يا أبرد الخلق كف عن بلد
يدعو بوه عليك بالغرق
O coldest of creations, stop harming a country
That prays against you with drowning
أنهاره من جراك قد جمدت
قلوب أهليه منك في حرق
Its rivers from your cold have frozen
The hearts of its people from you are burning
يا شر ضيف روعت أنفسنا
طيورنا من لقاك في فرق
O evil guest, you have frightened our souls
Our birds from meeting you are scattered
قلصت أجسامنا فلا جلد
على الجليد ولا الوقود بقي
You have shrunk our bodies so no skin
Against the ice, no fuel remained
غادرت شمس السماء كاسفة
كأنها ما علت بذا الأفق
The sun of the sky departed downcast
As if it did not rise on this horizon
تركت شهباءنا كدار بلى
قد نام من أمهاه فلم يفق
You left our moon like a dilapidated house
Whose mother fell asleep and did not awake
تنعق فيها الغربان جائعة
والوحش كادت تسير في الطرق
In it the ravens caw hungry
And the beasts almost walked the roads
لا نبت لا ماء فهو في جمد
بل من رأى جامدا من العرق
No plants, no water, so it is frozen
Rather whoever saw sweat frozen
تشقق الصفر والحديد معا
تفلق الصخر كل منفلق
Yellow and iron crack together
The boulders split, everything split
صاحبتنا الشهر غير منقطع
سكبا ودفقا يا شر مندفق
You have accompanied us for months on end
Pouring and gushing, O evil downpour
وزدت عشرا ولست منفصلا
هل أنت يا ثلج غير منطلق
And you have exceeded ten but are not separate
O snow, are you not melting?
جاوزت حد الذراع مرتفعا
بالله هل ذاك منك عن حنق
You have risen above the elbow in height
By God, is this from you out of rancor?
أتلبث الدهر في منازلنا
لصقت كالدبق شر ملتصق
Will you reside in our dwellings forever?
You have stuck like tar, O evil sticker
هل عازم أنت طمس بقعتنا
من صفحة الأرض عزم مفترق
Are you determined to erase our region
From the earth’s page, a scattered resolve?
كم حائط ناطح السماء غدا
مشققا فانهوى من الرهق
How many a towering wall has become
Cracked, so it collapsed from exhaustion
وتربة لم يعد لها جلد
عليك أهبطتها إلى سحق
And soil that no longer has a crust
You made it descend to pulverization
أهلكت أغنامنا وطائرنا
سعيدنا فيك راح وهو شقي
You have destroyed our sheep and birds
Our happiness in you departed and he was wretched
يبي منا الفقير في فرق
طاوي الحشى والغني في أرق
The poor person wails in destitution
Bent with hunger, the rich in agony
ويصبح الكل كي يسير على
يأس على شدة على زلق
And everyone becomes to walk upon
Despair, hardship, slipperiness
لا أبخس المحسنين حقهم
فقد جروا في الندى على نسق
I do not diminish the rights of benefactors
For they have pulled through the dew in order
جادوا فكم من يد مباركة
قد فرجت عن خناق مختنق
They have given so many blessed hands
That have relieved choking throats
يا ضربة الجو هل ائمنا وما
في قطرنا شافع ابر تقي
O blow of the air, did we wrong you and what
In our country intercedes, most devout?
يا نقمة الأرض ذي ديار بني ال
أديان هل ليس في الديار نفي
O vengeance of the earth, O lands of the God
fearing people, is there no banishment from the lands?
كل يعد السواء مذهبه
والعقل يقضي بأوضح الطرق
Everyone counts tolerance as his doctrine
And reason rules with the clearest paths
الدين لله والبلاد لمن
توطنوها من كافة الفرق
Religion is for God and the countries are for those
Who settled them from all denominations
هبوا إلى العلم كلكم ودعوا
كل اختلاف يجر للزلق
Rise to knowledge all of you and leave
Every difference that leads to slipping
كنوز ذي الأرض تحت أرجلكم
والفرق بين الأقوام كالفلق
The treasures of this earth are beneath your feet
And the differences between peoples are but cracks
لن تفلحوا ما استمر قائدكم
يغري بكم للعداء والمذاق
You will not succeed as long as your leader
Tempts you to enmity and altercations
لن تصبحوا أمة مهذبة
إلا بعلم خلا من الرنق
You will not become a refined nation
Except by knowledge devoid of affectation
إن الأعادي بنا محدقة
يا ويلنا من غوائل الحدق
Indeed adversaries watch us closely
Woe to us from the calamities of watching
هل بيننا من يقول ذا وطني
بالروح أفديه ليس بالورق
Is there among us one who says “this is my homeland,
With my soul I sacrifice it, not just in words”?
كذا يكون الذين قد بلغوا
من المعالي بنهاية الطرق
Thus are those who have reached
The peaks of sublimity, the limits of paths
ما أكثر الأدعياء إن سئلوا
وما أقل المجيب بالصدق
How abundant are the pretenders if asked
And how few are truthful responders
لعلنا والزمان أدبنا
نسعى إلى الوفق سعي مرتزق
Perhaps we and time have disciplined us
To strive for success, the striving of a breadwinner
لعل هذي الديار مسعدة
بأهلها والنحوس في محق
Perhaps these lands are fortunate
With its inhabitants while misfortune is erased
قد آن أن تعمر الديار بكم
يا ركن أوطاننا بلا ملق
It is time these lands be populated by you
O pillar of our homelands without blemish
