1. وَأَبيَض قَد نَبَّهتهُ بَعدَ هَجعَةٍ

    وَقَد لَبِسَ اللَّيلُ القَميصَ الأَرَندَجا

    And white I had awakened after slumber

    And the night had worn the orange shirt

  2. وَجَدتُ عَلَيهِ مَغرَماً فَقَبضتُهُ

    وَفَرَّجتُ ما يرجى بِهِ أَن يُضَرَّجا

    I found him lovesick so I took him in

    And I relieved what I hoped would give him comfort

  3. وَكُنتُ إِذا قَومي دَعَوني لِنَجدَةٍ

    شَدَدتُ نِطاقي حينَ أُدعى لأَسرَجا

    And whenever my people called me for help

    I’d gird my belt when summoned to saddle

  4. فَأَكشِفُ غُمّاها وَأَكسبُ مَغنَما

    وَأُطفي الَّذي قَد كانَ فيها مُؤَجَّجا

    So I’d uncover their worries and gain spoils

    And extinguish what once was burning within
