لَم أُبدِ طَلاقَةً وَسرّي داجِ
عادَيتُ فَعادِ مظهراً أَو داجِ
I showed no cheerful face while my inmost self lay dark;
I showed hostility—so repay it, openly or covertly.
هَذي الأُسُلُ الظماءُ لا بُدَّ لَها
أَن تشرقَ رَيّا بدم الأَوداجِ
These thirsty spears cannot but
choke, their thirst slaked, on the blood of jugular veins.
