To the meteors I say, dragging behind me the train of my conjectures:
To the shooting stars I say, trailing behind me the train of my conjectures:
I have conversed with you; so keep vigil, for at night my sorrows dwell within me.
“I have kept you in talk — so stay wakeful; night-long, sorrows are in me.
From your array, my wandering gleams delighted me;
From your stringing, roving gleams have flashed out and delighted me,
I was enchanted by them—and how could I not be, when they are eyes?
and I am taken with them — and how should I not be, when they are eyes?”
