أَنا بِالوُشاةِ إِذا ذَكَرتُكَ أَشبَهُ

تَأتي النَدى وَيُذاعُ عَنكَ فَتَكرَهُ

I am like a slanderer whenever I mention you,

For you bring the dew of bounty, yet loathe that it be known.

وَإِذا رَأَيتُكَ دونَ عِرضي عارِضاً

أَيقَنتُ أَنَّ اللَهَ يَبغي نَصرَهُ

And when I see you stand as a shield before my honor,

I know for certain that God intends its victory.
