Parting is nothing new to me
As for separation, it is the constant I have always known,
We were born twins, though earth delivered me first
Indeed, it is my twin, were such a parting ever born.
We know we must obey his will
And we have known that we must surely yield to its decree,
Since we know we were not created to last
From the moment we learned that we are not immortal.
When the noble steeds carry us off
And when the steeds, O Abu al-Bahi, bear us away
Away from you, how grudging must my departure be!
From your side, then the finest mount becomes the vilest ride.
He who blames parting: I am not
While some single out separation alone for their blame, I am he
One who sees nothing in life worthy of praise
Who sees nothing in the turning of Time worthy of praise.
