We heard what you said in dreams
We heard the words you uttered in your dreams,
And saw you in a vision during sleep
And granted you a fortune in our sleep;
And we woke up just as you woke up without anything
Then we awoke, like you, possessing nothing—
And the obtainment was equal to the words
For the gift was merely equal to the speech.
While writing you were sleeping eyed
In what you wrote, your eyes were surely sleeping,
So were you sleeping handed
But tell me: were your pens asleep as well?
O you who complain, when the pillars sleep
O complainer! If you slept despite your need,
There is no sleep with destruction
There is no slumber found alongside need.
Open your eyelids and leave the words in sleep
Open your eyelids, leave the talk of drowsing,
And distinguish the speech of the sword of mankind
And heed the address of the Sword of Mankind;
He who is without an adequacy and without
He for whom there is no substitute, nor any
An alternative or a protector of what he intended
Alternative, nor shield against his will;
All his forefathers are the dignitaries of the people of the world
All his fathers were the noblest of the world,
But he is the most dignified of the dignitaries
Yet he remains the Noble of the Nobles.
