My longing for you has banished the sweetness of slumber,
You departed, yet that longing remained dwelling within my ribs.
Did you not taste a saltiness in the waters of the Sarat,
From the flood of tears I shed into the Euphrates?
I strove endlessly to guard against your farewell,
Until my sorrow became the very act of parting.
Solace departed upon my departure, as though
I sent my sighs to escort it away in procession.
