لَم تَرَ مَن نادَمتُ إِلّاكا

لا لِسِوى وُدِّكَ لي ذاكا

You saw I chose no drinking-friend save You,

Solely because Your love for me was true;

وَلا لِحُبّيها وَلَكِنَّني

أَمسَيتُ أَرجوكَ وَأَخشاكا

Not for the love of wine, but rather I

Have come to hope in You, and fear You too.
