إِذا ما شَرِبتُ الخَمرَ صِرفاً مُهَنَّأً
شَرِبنا الَّذي مِن مِثلِهِ شَرِبَ الكَرمُ
When I drink the wine, pure and gratifying,
We have drunk of a draught like that which the vine imbibes;
أَلا حَبَّذا قَومٌ نَداماهُمُ القَنا
يُسَقّونَها رَيّاً وَساقيهِمُ العَزمُ
How splendid a folk whose drinking companions are spears,
Quenched fully by the cup, while their cupbearer is Resolve.
