شَديدُ البُعدِ مِن شُربِ الشُمولِ
تُرُنجُ الهِندِ أَو طَلعُ النَخيلِ
Far removed from the drinking of the wine,
Like Indian citron or the palm-bloom fine;
وَلَكِن كُلُّ شَيءٍ فيهِ طيبٌ
لَدَيكَ مِنَ الدَقيقِ إِلى الجَليلِ
But all within is pleasant to the soul,
From subtle parts to the majestic whole,
وَمَيدانُ الفَصاحَةِ وَالقَوافي
وَمُمتَحَنُ الفَوارِسِ وَالخُيولِ
A battlefield of eloquence and rhymes,
Where knights and horses face their testing times.
