إِذا اِعتَلَّ سَيفُ الدَولَةِ اِعتَلَّتِ الأَرضُ

وَمَن فَوقَها وَالبَأسُ وَالكَرَمُ المَحضُ

When Sayf al-Dawla falls ill, the earth itself falls ill,

With all who dwell upon it, alongside valor and pure generosity.

وَكَيفَ اِنتِفاعي بِالرُقادِ وَإِنَّما

بِعِلَّتِهِ يَعتَلُّ في الأَعيُنِ الغُمضُ

How could I find profit in sleep, when truly,

Because of his ailment, slumber itself sickens within the eyes?

شَفاكَ الَّذي يَشفي بِجودِكَ خَلقَهُ

لِأَنَّكَ بَحرٌ كُلُّ بَحرٍ لَهُ بَعضُ

May He heal you, who heals His creation through your bounty,

For you are an ocean, of which every other sea is but a part.
