أَلا أَذِّن فَما أَذكَرتَ ناسي

وَلا لَيَّنتَ قَلباً وَهوَ قاسِ

Shall I not call though you forget the intimates?

Call out the prayer! You remind no forgetful mind,

Nor soften a heart which is harsh?

Nor have you softened a heart turned to stone;

وَلا شُغِلَ الأَميرُ عَنِ المَعالي

وَلا عَن حَقِّ خالِقِهِ بِكاسِ

Nor the prince be busied from the high aims,

For the Prince is not diverted from glory's height,

Nor from the right of his Creator by a cup?

Nor from his Maker's due by the wine-filled cup.
