I send forth every ambitious spirit
O rouser of every high-aspiring virtue,
And knight of every flaming enterprise,
And master of every swift and gliding steed,
Thrusting at every lofty, sullen fort,
And dealer of the deep and gaping thrust,
And flouting every sage reproof.
Who spurns the counsel of the sincere scold,
May God grant me, before death, a day
May God grant me a draught before I die,
When my foes' blood flows from the wounds.
Of enemies' blood, fresh from the depths of wounds.
