How long will you remain in the garb of a destitute man?
How long will you remain forbidden fruit,
Until when will you remain in the pilgrim’s guise?
And how long in misery—and for how much longer?
And for how long will you suffer in agony?
And how long will you linger in misery—and to what end?
And if you do not die beneath the swords, honored,
Unless you die honored beneath the swords,
For if you do not die with honor beneath the swords,
you will die enduring humiliation, unhonored.
You will die tasting disgrace without honor.
You shall die enduring abasement, dishonored.
So leap, trusting in God, with a noble man's leap,
So rise up, trusting in God, with the leap of a glorious one
So leap, trusting in God, with the spring of the glorious,
who sees death in battle as bees' honey in the mouth.
Who sees death in the fray as bees see honey in the mouth.
Who deems death in the fray as sweet as honey in the mouth.
